Tamara is Sydney based and an active working professional jazz singer…

Tamara was born in Lithuania, into a family where jazz was much loved and appreciated.  Under the soviet rule however, music was restricted and jazz was illegal. Underground jazz festivals were a risky place but Tamara was inexplicably drawn in by the music.

“The harmony, melodies, improvisation and chemistry between the musicians transported me to another world. When I was a teenager my music comrade invited me to listen to a foreign LP (illegally) and it turned my life upside down. It was Ella Fitzgerald live in Berlin accompanied by Paul smith quartet. I never knew that music could be played that way and it changed me for life!”

She grew up absorbing music that laid the foundation for her future growth and artistry in the jazz world. Later equipped with a degree in choir conducting and voice production, Tamara attended countless master classes including Dianne Reeves and Manhattan and Transfer. Recently she attended an unforgettable master class presented by the Hartford jazz society by Barbara Morrison.

Tamara draws influence from some of the world’s greatest singers including Rachelle Ferrell, Mel Torme, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McCrae, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Al Jarreau and Betty Carter.

These days Tamara is performing with her Jazzcatz Trio around Australia, in support of her upcoming CD release “Blue like a jazz note”. The CD covers a set of excellent jazz standards made famous by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Nancy Wilson.

“Every tune has some sort of personal connection. It is a reflection of who I am and where I am at this time. It is where I have naturally been leaning in my own life and a great many personal memories are attached to these amazing songs.”

Enjoy listening.
